Jade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Jade is an ornamental stone. The term jade is applied to two different rocks that are made up of different silicate minerals. Nephrite jade consists of the calcium- and magnesium-rich amphibole mineral actinolite (aggregates of which also make up one form of asbestos). The rock called jadeitite consists almost entirely of jadeite, a sodium- and aluminium-rich pyroxene. The trade name Jadite [sic] is sometimes applied to translucent/opaque green glass."

Royal Alexandra Theatre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Royal Alexandra Theatre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "A 1500-seat, beaux-arts-style, proscenium-stage theatre, with two balcony levels, built in the style typical of 19th century British theatres. Construction began in 1905 and was completed in 1907. Since 1963 it has been owned by Ed Mirvish Enterprises, a company established by Toronto department store owner Edwin Mirvish. Since 1986, the theatre has been managed and operated by Mirvish Productions, the theatre production company headed by Ed's son, David Mirvish. The theatre, commonly known as the 'Royal Alex', 'the Alex' or 'the R.A.T.' is named for Queen Alexandra, a Danish princess and the wife of King Edward VII, great-grandmother to the current Queen of Canada, Elizabeth II. The theatre received letters patent from Edward VII entitling it to the royal designation. Its present owners believe that it is the only remaining legally 'royal theatre' in North America."

RMS Titanic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

RMS Titanic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "The RMS Titanic was a British Olympic-class ocean liner,[1] the largest liner built in her day. She took her place in history when she struck an iceberg and sank on her maiden voyage in 1912. Estimates vary, but around 1,520 people perished in the accident and the disaster ranks as one of the worst peacetime maritime disasters in history.[2] The resulting media frenzy, the discovery of the wreck in 1985, and the box office successes of three major films have perpetuated the fame. The great loss of life resulted in improved safety standards at sea, and affected many aspects of maritime law."

World Wrestling Entertainment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

World Wrestling Entertainment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "WCW was in dire straits with the WWF consistently beating them in the ratings war. It only survived because Ted Turner retained control over it as a result of Turner Broadcasting System's merger with Time Warner. However, after Time Warner merged with AOL, Turner's power was considerably reduced, and the newly merged company decided to get rid of WCW entirely. In March 2001, WWF Entertainment, Inc. acquired World Championship Wrestling, Inc. from AOL Time Warner for a number reported to be around $7 million.[9] With this purchase, WWF was now the largest wrestling promotion in the world, and the only one in North America with mainstream exposure. It remained so until the launch of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in 2002.
The assets of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), which had folded after filing for bankruptcy protection in April 2001, were purchased by WWE in mid-2003."

Barbie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barbie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "In 1997, the Danish pop-dance group Aqua released a song called Barbie Girl. It contained lyrics such as 'You can brush my hair / Undress me everywhere' and used graphics similar to the pink Barbie logo. Mattel argued that this constituted a trademark infringement and filed a defamation lawsuit against MCA Records on September 11, 1997. In July 2002, Judge Alex Kozinski ruled that the song was protected as a parody under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.[24][25]
